Today's sermon at church resonated within me on so many different levels. So many things that I'm working with right now, so many things surrounding me.. and Sharon (Kraybill, not one of our pastors - she just happened to be preaching today) had a message today that just caught me and held me and reminded me of so many things. I know there's a lot of space between myself and many of those I love dearly and today I caught a glimpse of what might be if only I could learn to celebrate that space instead of resenting it or being hurt by it - or using it to cause injury. So give it a listen if you have a few minutes. In the meantime, here's a catchy tune that I heard with different ears this evening. One more for the next mix tape, I s'pose..

First-year students at Penn State's Vet school were receiving their first anatomy class - with a real dead cow. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, 'In Veterinary Medicine it is necessary to have two important qualities as a doctor: The first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the animal body.' For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the dead cow, withdrew it and stuck his finger in his mouth. 'Go ahead and do the same thing,' he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a finger in the anal opening of the dead cow and sucking on it. When everyone finished, the Professor looked at them and said, 'The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention. Life's tough; it's even tougher if you're stupid.'

President Bush delivered an outstanding speech in Bangkok yesterday. Read it if you have the time, but here's the closing paragraph if you're busy: "Change in China will arrive on its own terms and in keeping with its own history and its own traditions. Yet change will arrive. And it will be clear for all to see that those who aspire to speak their conscience and worship their God are no threat to the future of China. They're the people who will make China a great nation in the 21st century."
